PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has appealed to Cambodian authorities, requesting intervention in a dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei. The investor alleges serious misconduct, including breach of trust, financial fraud, and other irregularities.
In letters sent to government officials, including the Ministry of Justice, the investor claims he was defrauded and financially harmed by Yamada, a Japanese national and chairman of the board. The correspondence alleges inflated purchase prices in multiple real estate transactions in Cambodia, with preliminary estimates suggesting that about $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal benefit and that of associates.
The investor also alleges that Yamada and accomplices created fictitious business transactions, including loans totaling over $7 million, and engaged in document forgery and large-scale cash diversions through shell companies. Some funds are said to have been transferred to an overseas account under the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
Further allegations claim that Yamada established shell companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia using nominees while maintaining direct control over related bank accounts and transactions.
Cambodian prosecutors have reportedly filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others, and some assets and accounts have been frozen under court orders. The letters also indicate that investigations are ongoing, with authorities in several countries — including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States — examining potential embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering.
The investor urged Cambodian courts and authorities to carry out a thorough investigation, warning that interference could allow suspects to evade accountability, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
The case is under active investigation, with local and international authorities closely monitoring developments.
